The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an inclusive community pursuing research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat and culture. The lives of participants are enriched as we gain knowledge of history through activities, demonstrations, and events.
Members of the SCA study and take part in a variety of activities, including combat, archery, equestrian activities, costuming, cooking, metalwork, woodworking, music, dance, calligraphy, fiber arts, and much more. If it was done in the Middle Ages or Renaissance, odds are you’ll find someone in the SCA interested in recreating it.
The “Knowne World,” or the current world map, is divided into a number of SCA “Kingdoms” based on geography. Then cities and towns in those Kingdoms might have smaller SCA groups known at Baronies, Shires, or Cantons in them. Murfreesboro, TN is the Shire of Rising Stone (for the monolith marking the geographic center of Tennessee) in the Kingdom of Meridies, which is made up of mostly Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.
